The practical pages

Compare the package before the price.

By Garden State Greens editorial desk

A lower package price does not always mean a lower price per gram. Divide the listed package price by its weight in grams, then compare packages you would actually consider.

A worked example

A hypothetical 3.5 g package listed at $30 costs about $8.57 per gram. A hypothetical 7 g package listed at $50 costs about $7.14 per gram. These are made-up examples to show the arithmetic, not current offers. Taxes and any unstated conditions are not included.

Price per gram = package price ÷ grams

Hypothetical packages · rounded to the nearest cent
WeightPackage pricePrice per gram
3.5 g$30$8.57
7 g$50$7.14

The second package has a lower price per gram and a higher total price. That does not establish better quality or a reason to buy a larger package.

Compare acceptable formats first

A category can contain packages with different formats, brands and sizes. Read the named format and decide which options suit your own criteria before comparing the numbers. Similar names at different stores do not establish that the products or batches are identical.

If the board has no useful options for you, an empty shortlist is a valid result. Do not change your preferences to fit a ranking.

Read the evidence and date

Check the package name and weight, listed price, source menu, publication date and stated conditions. An unknown tax amount or missing detail remains unknown. A published menu observation does not reserve stock and may differ from today’s store menu.

Before deciding whether a trip makes sense, confirm current price, availability and conditions with the store. Consider time and travel as well as the package.

What Value Score adds

GSG’s Value Score divides menu-labeled THC% by price per gram within a category. It is a labeled-THC-per-dollar measure, not a quality rating, a medical recommendation or a prediction of your experience. Descriptive labels and images do not change rank. Nobody can pay for rank.
